Darrell Lee Palmer died peacefully Nov. 19, 2017, surrounded by his family.
He was born May 21, 1955, the oldest child born to Theadore and Marie (Merlini) Palmer.
As a young man he worked at Crystal Mountain as a diesel mechanic and much more. He was an operating engineer with Local Union 612 for 40 years, working for Tucci and Sons, Looker and Associates, Woodworth and Co. and Site Development Inc. He was a devoted family man who instilled in his daughters the love of the outdoors and his ardor for fishing. He was dedicated to his community, helping at the local community center and the Black Diamond Museum. He was immersed in the Order Of Sons of Italy, keeping the culture of his heritage alive. Other passions included being a master mechanic, computer guru, master canner, camper extraordinaire and John Wayne fan. He is remembered for his sense of humor and homemade Italian sausage.
He is survived by daughters Rebecca Shaw (Jason), Sarah Palmer and Toni Palmer; two stepchildren; sister Livia Ziebarth (Bill); brother Randy Palmer; and five grandchildren.
A celebration of his life is planned for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Black Diamond Community Center, 31605 Third Ave., Black Diamond, Wash. 98010.
Due to his significant medical financial hardship, the family requests monetary donations in lieu of cards and flowers, payable to Sarah Palmer, c/o Black Diamond Community Center, P.O. Box 480, Black Diamond, Wash. 98010.
