Don Suchan

Former area resident Don Suchan, 74, died May 28, 2012, due to cancer.

He was born July 26, 1937, in Lisbon, N.D., to Louis and Lucille Suchan, moved with his family to Washington at age 14 and completed his school years in Enumclaw. He enjoyed watching boxing, football and NASCAR, driving in demolition races at the Spanaway Speedway; jeeping with the Buckley Bandits, tinkering around in the garage and spending time with family and friends. He worked for Weyerhaeuser for 14 years as a mechanic and drove logging trucks, later founded D&D Logging and Construction with brother Duane and eventually went to work for Potelco as a heavy equipment operator. Upon retirement at age 55, he returned to North Dakota where he took great pleasure in camping, fishing, traveling and operating backhoe for the residents and the city of Center, N.D.

He is survived by wife Pearl; son Daniel and wife MaryEllen; daughter Laura and husband Mike; stepchildren Nathan and wife Noreen, Christine and husband Louis and Barry and wife Sherrie; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in by his death brother Duane, sister Donneen and niece Carrie.

A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at Weeks Funeral Home in Buckley. A reception at the Enumclaw Moose Lodge 1543 will follow the service.
