Edward Steven Lindner of Enumclaw, WA, passed away surrounded by family and friends on February 25, 2023. Ed was born January 9, 1954 to Paul and Jewel Lindner in Long Beach, California. A 1972 graduate of Mark Morris High School in Longview, WA, Ed attended Central Washington University where he made many lifelong friends. He married the love of his life, Susan Ryan, in 1979, and celebrated her daily until his passing.
Ed possessed a steadfast integrity and altruistic spirit that resonated in the hearts of all who met him. Driven by the desire to help others, Ed always believed there was a right thing to do – and he directed all his energy to realizing it. This led to a successful career in product sales and management with Whirlpool, Dal-Tile, and Samsung. Ed also was deeply involved in charity within his community, volunteering through numerous services, notably the Rainier Foothills Wellness Foundation.
A showman from birth, Ed loved to sing and emcee, often for charitable fundraising. Anyone who knew Ed has a memory of him absolutely nailing Bobby Darin’s version of Mack the Knife. He rarely missed an opportunity to take a microphone-but you never got the sense it was about him; his message was always about others. With a powerful voice and unmatched confidence, Ed occasionally performed with local classic rock band Howling Rain-an honor that brought him so much joy.
Ed could often be found on the links, still managing to give back to the community in the form of countless golf balls. He loved the lore and mystique of golf, particularly on the coast at Bandon Dunes.
Ed was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia and parkinsonism in early 2018. As his abilities waned, his smile grew. Despite the tragic long goodbye, love continued to emanate from his spirit.
Ed was devoted to his wife and son, of whom he was so very proud. He set the bar for kindness and unconditional love that inspired everyone he touched. He will be terribly missed, and will remain in our hearts always.
In addition to his wife and son Alex, Ed is survived by Tiffany Ewings, who became part of the family as a young adult; his five siblings, Carol Haven, Dan Lindner, Jim Lindner, Jenny Froslie and Mike Lindner; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Ed’s life will be held on June 3, 2023 in Enumclaw, WA. There will be music.
