Buckley resident Fred Carey died July 19, 2011, at the Washington State Old Soldiers Home in Orting. He was 87.

He was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Emory, Texas, to Armon and Sara Carey. He worked as a farmer, lumberman and also was trained in wastewater management. After retiring, he and his wife moved 20 years ago from Ocean Shores to Buckley. He enjoyed ball games, yard work, gardening, growing things and especially loved watching birds and naming the species.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Fern Carey of Buckley; son Jess Carey and wife Francesca of Norfolk, Va.; daughter Nancy Wojciechowski and husband Edward of Kalama, Wash.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

No service is planned.
