Jane Antoinette “Toni” Erickson died April 6, 2012, at her Enumclaw home. She was 74.
She was born in 1938 in Oklahoma City, Okla., to William Wallace Taylor and Kathryn Jane Hurst. Her mother later married Emmett Donovan of Oklahoma City, Okla., who adopted her and her sister, Tinker. She then converted to Roman Catholicism where she found her lifelong spiritual home. She attended Bishop McGinnis High School in Oklahoma City and then received a nursing degree. She specialized in labor and delivery. She married Kenneth J. Erickson, a lieutenant in the Navy, and the couple lived in Florida, Mary-land, Japan
and Cal-ifornia. After her husband left the military they settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. They relocated to Enumclaw in 1976.
She worked as a nurse at Enumclaw Memorial Hospital, taught childbirth education classes and in 1990 graduated from the Seattle Midwifery School and established the Enumclaw Midwives practice. She delivered more than 1,500 children in the Plateau region.
She is survived by husband Kenneth J. Erickson; children Jane M. Krohn, Kenneth J. Erickson Jr., Kristy K. Smith, Jeffrey M. Erickson, Peter G. Erickson, Margaret T. “Peggy” Giosso, Timothy J. Erickson, John R. Erickson, Anna M. Erickson, Kari K. Valenzuela; brothers Bill, Tracey and Reagan Taylor; and 22 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister.
A funeral mass is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Sacred Heart Church, 1614 Farrelly St. in Enumclaw.
