Joan Fowler died Feb. 4, 2017, from natural causes, at Heritage House Memory Care in Buckley. She was 86.

She was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Athens, Ga., to Horace Hughey and Jane LaTrell (Hix). She and husband Keith L. Fowler were longtime residents of the San Francisco area, where she worked as an administrative assistant for a maritime lawyer. She filled her retirement years with family, reading, gardening and travel.

She is survived by son Kevin R. Fowler of Orting, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Keith, who died on Feb. 9, 2007, and a daughter, Linda E. Wayne, who died in 2016.
