Buckley resident Ken Longmire, 85, died April 10, 2017.
He was born April 26, 1931, to Harry and Rena Longmire in Olympia, Wash. He graduated from Olympia High School in 1949 and from Washington State University in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in animal science. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954 and was stationed in Japan and Hawaii. On Sept. 12, 1959, he married Joy Phinney in Taco-ma. He owned and operated Fair Breeze Farms in Olympia from 1968 to 1986, then moved to Buckley to operate the WSU Research Dairy. He retired in the early 1990s. He enjoyed fishing, socializing at the Eagles and restoring old tractors.
He is survived by sons Tim Longmire of Portland, Ore., and Terry (Jennifer) Longmire of Buckley; daughter Janet (Jim) Dildine of Orting; brother Harald Longmire of Tacoma; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by wife Joy on Sept. 19, 2013.
A celebration of his life is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at the Buckley Eagles.
