LeRoy Sonneson

LeRoy passed away June 12, 2019 in University Place.

LeRoy Lawrence Sonneson was born May 17, 1929 to Roy and Orie Sonneson. He passed away June 12, 2019 in University Place. LeRoy worked for Weyerhaeuser for over 40 years, as well as several gyppo logging companies.

He loved the outdoors, fishing, going to the beach, and traveling with his family.

He was known for his quiet strength, bravery, admirable work ethic, and good-hearted nature. One of his proudest moments was being chosen as the 2005 Bull of the Woods of the Buckley Log Show.

Some of the fondest memories of LeRoy are at family gatherings with everyone gathered around listening to all of his incredible and vibrant stories of his childhood and logging adventures. He was a quiet man, but he always had the right words to say. Everyone that met LeRoy was forever changed by his gentle demeanor and kind persona.

He was preceded in death by his son, Delmis, his parents Roy Sonneson and Orie Anderson and brothers Jerry Sonneson, Bud Sonneson, Don Randall and stepbrother Rudy Randall. He is survived in death by his wife of more than 70 years, Lucille, sister Helen McKeever, daughter Pam Wik, grandchildren Hilary McCabe (Terry McCabe) and Paul Wik (Jennifer Wik), and great grandchildren Hailey McCabe, Tommy McCabe, Anna Wik, Alexander Wik as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial was held Saturday, June 22nd at 11 a.m. at the Moose Lodge in Enumclaw, WA. Memorial donations may be sent to Buckley Log Show, P.O. Box 944 Buckley, WA 98321 or Buckley Fire Department, 611 S Division St Buckley, WA 98321.
