Maris Gayle Sovold died Jan. 3, 2019.
She was born June 3, 1965, in Enumclaw to Alan and Doris Maris. She grew up in Buckley and was active in the Community Presbyterian Church there. She graduated from the University of Washington and lived most of her adult life in Seattle, until moving to Colorado with her family in July 2016. She battled colon cancer for more than two years, but never let it slow her down. She loved hiking, exploring and taking on new challenges. She was passionate about the preservation of historic buildings, sites and artifacts as well as species. She worked and volunteered many years for the Seattle Woodland Park Zoo and also volunteered at history and archival centers in Seattle and in Colorado.
She is survived by both her parents; brother Warren Maris; husband Tim Sovold and their children Mali, Annika, Nolan and Isaac.
Memorial services will take place in Colorado and Washington.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wheat Ridge Presbyterian Church, University Presbyterian Church or the Woodland Park Zoo.
