Born October 29, 1943, to Barbara and Graham McNeeley, Mike passed away peacefully in his home September 13, 2024. Mike was a life-long member of the Enumclaw community, graduating from Enumclaw high school in 1962.
After high school, Mike worked at Crystal Mountain Ski Resort on the original ski patrol and as a tree feller, establishing some of the original ski runs on the mountain. After Crystal Mountain, Mike joined the Marine Corps Reserve while also working as a technician for Bell telephone. Mike was honorably discharged from the USMC as a Sergeant after serving six years.
Wanting to get back to the outdoors, Mike joined the Weyerhauser company and worked as a tree feller for ten years in the timberlands surrounding Enumclaw. A life-long lover of woodworking, Mike left Weyerhauser to build his own sawmill, which he ran as a small business for several years.
Mike served his community as a volunteer firefighter for King County Fire District 46 where he became a certified emergency medical technician (EMT). This led to a career change, transitioning from life as a sawyer to a full time EMT. For 25 years, Mike worked for both Shepard and American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance companies serving Enumclaw and the surrounding area.
Mike served his community throughout his life and was someone you could always count on for help when you needed it. Along with his volunteer firefighting, he coached a youth soccer team and helped with the Logger’s Memorial. He even volunteered to take on the role of den “mother” for his son Michael’s cub scout den when disbandment threatened. He became the only male den leader in Cub Scout pack 500. When his cubs were ready to transition to Boy Scouts, Mike decided to form a whole new boy scout troop. As scout master of troop 546 for 8 years, he emphasized outdoor skills, preparedness, service, and self-reliance.
In his retirement years, Mike enjoyed spending money on his woodworking hobby and working on his small Christmas tree and cattle farm. Above all else, Mike enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. His laughter, talent, thoughtful nature, ability to solve problems and fix things will be greatly missed.
Mike was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Mike’s first child Daniel was born in 1968. Mike married a local teacher, Alda Amidon, in 1973. Mike and Alda welcomed two children, Sadie (1976), and Michael (1979). Mike and Alda celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary in April 2024.
Mike was preceded in death by his father Graham, his mother Barbara, brother Dennis, and sister Melody. He is survived by his wife Alda, son Daniel McNeeley, daughter Sadie Brumley (Jeff), son Michael McNeeley (Amber), and six grandchildren, Justice, Liam, Avery, Amelia, Jada, and Makayla.
