On the morning of February 18, 2024, our beloved wife, mom, grandma, great grandma and friend passed away peacefully in Enumclaw, WA. She was born on February 18th, 1939 in Finlayson, Minnesota to Walter and Julia Mannelin and now shares her birthday with her heavenly birthday.
Julie married Floyd Olafson in 1958 and had two sons, Tad and Jed. In 1966, she became a widow and the church rallied around her family and organized a group of people to help finish the carport addition that Floyd and Julie had started. One of those people ended up being the 2nd love of her life, Erwin Plagens. Julie and Erwin started dating several months later but didn’t know how it was going to work with Julie having two young sons and Erwin having a young daughter, Annette. After a lot of prayers and discussions they decided to take a chance and got married June 23, 1967. Julie welcomed Annette as one of her own. Together they had one additional son, Dell, and enjoyed 56 years of marriage.
Julie was very involved with her church for over
60 years. She loved to smile, laugh, sing, dance, serve others and go camping with Erwin in their trailer, then motor home, any chance they could. She was generally the navigator and Erwin loved that their journeys went from bakery to bakery; no freeways. What she loved most was doing everything with Erwin.
Julie knew the importance of family, having lost a husband. She loved Erwin, sons Tad Olafson (Kim), Jed Olafson (Dianna), Dell Plagens (Karin), daughter Annette Vranizan, 12 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. She would just light up when she was around the great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on March 14, 2024 at 11:00 am.
