How does one share the life of a legend in mere words? It’s nearly impossible since a legend is a an experience, not a story. Let this story share a portion of the experience of a special man.
On January 7,1930, Adriana and John Schipper had no idea the birth of their son, Peter S. Schipper would make such a difference in so many lives. The 1930’s brought many other grand events, including the introduction of the first John Deere Model A Tractor. How ironic, for the things that would come.
Canadian born, becoming a US citizen was one of his proudest achievements. Not nearly as magical, though, as the day he married his bride, Miss Betty Rothleutner. Soon, Mr & Mrs Schipper grew their family with 5 children.
After flip-flopping between the foothills and Auburn, in 1947 the Schipper family settled in Enumclaw. From the feed store to pickle factory – Farman’s to Farming…he left his personal mark on everything and everyone he came across. Peter believed in people, shared fairness and kindness with all.
During Peter’s 95 years, John Deere would introduce over 700 different tractor models. Impressive, but that is where he and his tractors differ. Peter was not about quantity, but about quality. He would not introduce anything new of his own.
Instead, quite unknowingly, and far greater than 700, is the number of people who found him to be an example, a friend, a role “model”.
Peter Schipper cannot be experience in words, but he has left indelible marks on the Earth and all the hearts who shared his. He learned, he laughed, he loved, he lived…He will always be“The Legend”.
March 16, 2025, while holding hands with his loved ones, Peter peacefully passed the baton … and the seat of his John Deere tractor.
He joined his parents and siblings, his son Michael and daughter Marva.
He is survived by wife Betty, daughtersWanda (Tony) Madill, Claudia (Dave) Shirley, Taylor VanCleave; Grandchildren John, Justin, Nicholas, Kevin, David, Gunnar, Duke, Erica, April, Dakota, Holly; 26 great grandchildren; and 1 great great on the way.
