Robert Byers “Bob” Eaton died July 28, 2011, at the age of 95.
He was born May 13, 1916. He served in the U.S. Navy for more than 25 years as a chief petty officer, retired and took up his second career working for Seattle City Light for 25 years. He retired again and began devoting his time to The Lake Sawyer Community Club, The Black Diamond Historical Society and The Association of King County Historical Organizations. He served as a volunteer King County Marine Patrol Officer and Boating Advisory Board member, Covington Water District commissioner, city of Black Diamond planning commissioner and Labor Day Festival Committee member and park patrol volunteer. He received numerous awards for his volunteer work and was named Citizen of the Year in Black Diamond.
He is survived by his wife of more than 70 years Emma Annie Eaton. They were married July 12, 1941. His children, grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren also survive him.
Donations are suggested to the AKCHO or the Black Diamond Community Center. An alternative would be to get involved. He always encouraged people to find what they loved and pursue it.
A graveside service with military honors is planned for 2:15 p.m. Thursday Aug. 4, at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 S.E. 240th St. in Kent.
All are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.eycfc.com.
