Robert Lionel Gilman died July 8, 2019, in Arlington, Washington. He was 69.

He was born Aug. 19, 1949, in Manchester, New Hampshire, to the late Harry and Bernice (Miller) Gilman. He graduated from Manchester Westside High School in 1969 and then served in the U.S. Navy. He was a carpenter/woodworker by trade and loved playing billiards and following the Boston Celtics. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hiking and fishing. He spent his later years embraced in Native American culture.

He is survived by children Sarah Gilman (Cassie), Nathan Gilman (Heather), Timothy Dahl and Nikki Shurts (Chris); sisters Judith Muse (Howard), Diane Petersen and Gail Buteau (James); and seven grandchildren.

An inurnment service with full military honors will take place at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 240th St., Kent, Washington 98042.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to a local mental health organization.
