Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient Walter William “Buddy” Rex, 68, died Oct. 9, 2017, in Seattle.
He was born Dec. 29, 1948, in Seattle to Wesley and Thelma (Haukland) Rex. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He was also an accomplished woodworker, building furniture and canoes. He was a Seahawk fan and an accomplished poker player who took great pride in his home, loved nature and was fascinated by science and astronomy.
He is survived by son Keith Rex of Tacoma; daughters Michelle Menrath (Steve) of Dallas, Texas, Laura Straight (Trevor) of Auburn, Washington, and Julie Linehan (Chris) of Des Moines, Washington; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 27, at Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park. A celebration of his life will follow at the Enumclaw VFW.
