CHURCH CORNER: In trying times it’s important to not waver

I posted an article on March 29 entitled “You have to believe in order to receive!” It was a fundamental teaching found in the good book that when we pray we “have to believe” God will come through. We have to believe God will answer our prayers. The lack of faith can hinder the results. I used my new grandson Ronin (slippery seal), who had some major physical obstacles to overcome prior to his delivery. Yet, his family and I believed for a miracle which we received. But what do you do when you believe and pray but things don’t turn out your way?

Gail was a faithful member of our church for many, many years. Although she doesn’t go to our church any longer we remain close friends. Throughout all these years we have had the privilege and honor of seeing her two children grow up in to godly adults. They are the real deal! I can attribute much of their success to the influence of a godly mother and a believing father. Recently she came to share some devastating news. Her grandson’s tests came back and revealed he has cystic fibrosis and isn’t expected to live past 10 years old. Even this strong faith-filled woman had a hard time keeping the tears back and her voice from cracking. So what do you do in times like this? You ask God to intervene on the scene. You believe in a breakthrough to get you through. You pray for a miracle. But what happens when it does not turn out that way? You continue to trust and pray!

Although deeply saddened, her faith remained unwavering. She remained positive and looked for any and all blessings. She told us how God was already at work with this situation. Before they even knew the baby was ill, the father interviewed for a new job that would not require him to be gone from home. The mother already had a job that was very flexible. The money they make will offer their son the best of medical care and treatment. Both parents love this little guy immensely and count him as a blessing. They see the time they have with him, no matter how short it might be, as a gift from God. The way Gail puts it, “God knew this special child needed special parents and God knew just the right home to put him in.” And yes, we are all still believing and praying for a miracle, but trusting nonetheless!

Oh, his name – Barrett “Bear” Dubos.

See you in church.
