Bonney Lake High, which has emerged victorious in all three of its South Puget Sound League 3A football trials this season, demolished doormat Decatur 49-13 Saturday evening.
Once again it was the talented pass-catch tandem of Chris Brown and wideout Austin Marshall who were the featured performers, as the duo hooked up on touchdown strikes of 29, 55 and 45 yards to boost Bonney Lake to a 42-0 upper hand at intermission.
While Panther kicker Cameron Goener legged seven point-after-touchdown tries through the uprights in the one-sided meeting, swift scatback Tyler Babakus contributed a pair of 1-yard TD rumbles. BLHS defender Lucas Glassman advanced a blocked punt for a score and receiver Nathan Day latched on to a Brown 47-yard touchdown aerial to complete the Panther scoring.
The first-string offensive unit exited the game far in advance of the fourth period as did the defensive wrecking wall which has experienced a lapse against one team, its Sumner School District nemesis the Spartans, who handed 6-1 Bonney Lake its solitary setback of the 2010 season.
How is it Bonney Lake can average more than 400 yards of total offense per outing, provide yawning chasms for the running backs to zip through and keep its QB’s jersey in pristine condition?
“We have a fantastic group of guys up front on the offensive line,” coach Chad Barrett said.
“It all starts with senior right tackle Trevor McQueen, sophomore right guard and centers Jake Nash and Mike Howard. Then on the left side…are junior Taylor Mack and sophomore Neko Reynon,” Barrett said.
This O-line may face it’s most formidable test against Enumclaw at 7 p.m. Friday at Sunset Chev Stadium.
