The Bonney Lake Panthers kept their grip on second place in the South Puget Sound League 3A standings Thursday with a hard-fought, 1-0 road win at Enumclaw.
The teams battled back and forth well into the second half, remaining scoreless against Panther goalkeeper Rendi Johnson and the Hornets’ Caitlin Plese. The only tally came in the 62nd minute when, following a scramble in front of the goal, Bonney Lake’s Savannah Moorehouse was able to get a foot on the ball and knock it into the net.
The Thursday victory improved the Panthers’ league mark to 3-1, just a notch behind the 4-0 Auburn Mountainview Lions. In their head-to-head meeting, Bonney Lake fell to Auburn Mountainview in a shootout. The Panthers’ opportunity for revenge comes Tuesday when the teams meet on the Lions’ field.
Bonney Lake had an easy time in last week’s first game, hitting the road to blank the Lakes Lancers 5-0. Moorehouse had a huge night, scoring four goals. The fifth tally came from Madison Adams.
