The Bonney Lake Panthers girls tennis team’s up and down season continued last week. The team dropped its first two matches before rallying for a victory Friday night.
April 27, the Panthers fell to Decatur 3-1. Though standout and first singles player Alise McCoy missed the match, the Panthers picked up their only victory from Olivia Ottinger 6-0, 6-2, subbing for McCoy.
McCoy was back on the court Thursday, but things did not get much better as the Panthers fell 2-3 to Lakes. The Panthers got wins from McCoy at first singles and from the team of Goff and Olivia Andringa in third doubles.
Coach Billy Jacobsen said Goff, who was called up to play singles when McCoy was unavailable, is proving to be a bright spot for the young team.
The season came to a close Friday with a 3-2 win over Auburn Mountainview.
McCoy continued to play strong, winning 6-2, 6-3 while the second doubles team of Molly Miculinch and Andringa won 7-6, 6-2 and the third doubles pairing of Goff and Laura Miculinich won 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
Next up for the Panthers is the subdistrict tournament and Jacobsen said he expects McCoy to “do some real damage.”
