Bonney Lake High knocked off the Camas Papermakers Saturday, earning a trip to the state Class 3A soccer semifinals and a shot at the school’s first team state title.

It’s the first trip to the Final Four for the Panthers, who join Prairie High, Seattle Prep and Southridge as the last ones standing in the statewide 3A field.

The four will gather Friday and Saturday at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood to sort out the top four placings. The action gets under way at 2 p.m. Friday when Seattle Prep takes on Southridge and continues at 4 when Bonney Lake battles the Prairie Falcons. Friday’s losers will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday to determine third and fourth place while Friday’s winners square off at 2 p.m. Saturday for first- and second-place honors.

Bonney Lake enters the final weekend with an overall record of 18-1-1, coming off postseason victories over Liberty High and Camas. The Panthers’ only loss was to highly-regarded Kennedy Catholic at the start of postseason play.

Bonney Lake’s Friday opponent, out of the Greater St. Helens League, defeated Kennedy to punch its ticket to the Final Four. The Falcons, like the Panthers, are making their first appearance in the state semifinals.

Bonney Lake’s 1-0 victory over Camas came Saturday at Doc Harris Stadium, the Papermakers’ home field. It was a physical affair that was decided in the 62nd minute when the Panthers’ leading scorer, Savannah Moorehouse, drilled a goal from 13 yards out.

Camas had entered the game riding high on a 10-game winning streak.

Bonney Lake heads into semifinal play boasting a stingy defense that allows .48 goals per game behind the goalkeeping of Rendi Johnson, who had to make a series of late saves to preserve Saturday’s victory over Camas. While registering 15 shutouts on the year, the Panthers are averaging more than two goals per outing.
