Bonney Lake track and field: Competition close to home in Tacoma

A host of boys will represent all four area schools at the Class 3A state track and field championships at Mount Tahoma High in Tacoma. The preliminaries are scheduled for Thursday and Friday with the championship finals set to take place Saturday.

The top seven finishers at the West Central District 3A championships earned a spot at the state meet during competition.

Bonney Lake High finished ninth in the overall team standings with 32 points and White River was 12th with 22. Enumclaw finished tied with Auburn Mountainview for 18th with 14 points each.

Bonney Lake’s 4×400 relay teams captured first place with a time of 3 minutes, 24.80 second. White River took second at 3:27.33 and Enumclaw was seventh at 3:33.04.

The Panthers also advanced to state in the 4×100 with a sixth-place finish of 44.10 seconds.

Chris Pokorny of Bonney Lake finished second in the 400-meter run at 50.47 and White River’s Colin Green was a close third at 50.76. Pokorny’s teammate Cale Snider was sixth at 51.17.

Brandon Bauchem of Bonney Lake clinched second place in the 800 at 1:58.58, while two Enumclaw runners – Braden Timpe, 1:59.58, and Larry Calvert, 12:01.09, finished fifth and seventh respectively.

White River’s Matt Dickson finished third in the 1,600 run with a time of 4:25.94.

In the 300 hurdles, Enumclaw’s Abe Kelloge advanced to state with a fourth-place finish at 39.75 and White River’s Kramer Green took the final qualifying spot at seventh place with a time of 39.96.

Sumner’s Kevin Johnson moved on to state with a fifth-place finish in the pole vault at 13 feet.
