The Sumner High boys basketball team lost its first game of the season to nonleague foe North Thurston Dec. 4, falling 54-33 at home.

Sumner hung with North Thurston most of the way, trailing 32-24 at the close of the third period. But North Thurston’s Pete Rushton, who recorded 17 points, ignited the Rams for a 22-point fourth frame run that left the fading Spartans in the dust.

Brian Judkins led the SHS offense with nine points.

Sumner’s first South Puget Sound League 3A contest was Tuesday night at Enumclaw’s Chuck Smith Gymnasium; results came too late to include here but will be posted at www.courierherald.com.
