BOYS TENNIS: Bonney Lake, Enumclaw sends double teams to West Central District

Doubles teams from Bonney Lake and Enumclaw advanced to next spring’s West Central District III boys tennis tournament.

Ben Davidson and Steven Scott of Bonney Lake took fifth in the South Puget Sound League/Western Cascade Conference subdistrict tournament Oct. 22 after falling to Colton Heath and Max Jacobsen of Franklin Pierce, 6-2, 6-1.

Jeremy and Tyler McCarthy of Enumclaw finished sixth, losing to a team from Capital, 6-7, 6-0, 6-2.

Enumclaw’s Dan Milat is the No. 1 alternate in single’s play, while Grant Fulton and Josh Heuett of Sumner is the No. 2 alternate for doubles.

Milat defeated Michael Lee of Peninsula, 6-1, 7-6, while Fulton and Heuett lost to North Thurston’s duo, 6-0, 6-1.

Enumclaw finished fourth overall with 29 points, Bonney Lake was seventh with 20. Sumner took 11th place with 6 points and White River tied Clover Park for 12th with two points each.

Capital won the subdistrict title with 59 points.

The 2009 SPSL all-league boys tennis team, voted on by league coaches, was announced recently.

The lone first-team representative was Milat, while four other made honorable mention. Honorable mention were Davidson, Scott, Jeremy McCarthy and Fulton.

Four Enumclaw players were named to the SPSL 3A All-Academic team. They were Milat (3.95), Matt Zender (3.67), Jeremy McCarthy (3.58) and Levi Goodin (3.38).
