Enumclaw  High’s boys basketball squad played its first two SPSL 3A contests, hosting powerhouse Lakes Jan. 3 and Peninsula Friday.

The Hornets fell to defending Class 3A state champion Lakes, which was without Zach Banner, who was practicing with the West football squad for the U.S. Army Strong Prep All-American Bowl played Saturday.

Despite putting together a nice run in the second half, EHS dropped the encounter 80-69, before prevailing against Peninsula 63-54.

The basketball played against the visiting Seahawks wasn’t the prettiest, but EHS fans seemed to enjoy the work ethic drilled into the Hornets by first-year coach and EHS alum Kellen Hall.

The hustle seemed to make up for EHS’s lack of experience as the Hornet crew never loosened its stranglehold and hammered out their first league win of the season.

Point guard Tony Chynoweth spearheaded  Enumclaw’s offensive efforts with 19 points. The Hornets also received scoring help from Perry Rockwood and JR Condon who combined to rack up 23 points.
