EHS Hornets take third at South Hill Mall competition

Athletes will be competing Wednesday, Feb. 2, for the final regular-season meet.

Enumclaw High gymnast Brooke Faul placed second in all-around competition – with teammate Julia Carter just one spot behind – during a four-team meet on Jan. 27.

The competition, staged at the gymnastics center at the South Hill Mall, had the EHS Hornets placing third in the team standings. Puyallup High emerged on top, followed by the Sumner Spartans; Capital High was fourth.

Faul tallied 35.40 points in the four events to finish No. 2 in an all-around field of 22 gymnasts. Carter finished the night at 35.20. Other Enumclaw High competitors factoring in the all-around standings were Mylee Bonthuis, ninth place, 31.80; Anna Adsero, 10th, 29.45; Aislinn Binder, 15th, 27.00; Emma Clayton, 16th, 25.40; Eowyn Hardebeck, 18th, 25.00; and Kaylee Hehr, 22nd, 21.80.

In securing second place overall, Faul won the uneven bars with a score of 8.65. Additionally, she was third in both the vault and balance beam and fifth in the floor exercise. Carter placed second in both the vault and bars while finishing third in the floor exercise and seventh on the beam.

Other Top 10 performances were turned in by Bonthuis, who tied for sixth in the vault, was eighth in the uneven bars and ninth in the floor exercise; and Adsero, ninth in the vault and tied for ninth in the bars.

Enumclaw’s final regular-season meet is set for tonight (Wednesday), beginning at 7 p.m. and again at the gymnastics center at the South Hill Mall.

Postseason competition begins with a Class 3A/2A subdistrict meet Feb. 12 at Kentlake High School. Enumclaw gymnasts will be paired against athletes from Auburn Mountainview, Auburn High, Auburn Riverside, Thomas Jefferson, Bonney Lake, Todd Beamer, Kent-Meridian and Kentlake.

From the subdistrict event, the top three teams, top six all-around gymnasts and top 12 individuals will advance to a West Central District event.
