Enumclaw equestrians win flag race in dual-state competition

And the drill team took third.

Enumclaw High equestrians wrapped up their season in fine fashion, bringing home honors from the Pacific Northwest Individual Championship.

PNWIC is an annual competition that follows the state meets for both Washington and Oregon competitors. The top five finishers in each event, from each state, qualify for PNWIC. The regional meet alternates between the neighboring states and this year’s meet was staged June 14-16 at the Grant County Fairgrounds in Moses Lake.

Next year’s regional meet will take place in Redmond, Oregon.

The top individual highlight for EHS was provided by Charlotte Hernandez, who captured first-place honors in both individual flags and pole bending. Also taking first place was the Canadian Flag Race team of Payton Clerget, Hernandez, Rodolfo Hernandez and Grace Struchen.

The EHS drill team placed third at PNWIC. The team was made up of Struchen, Brendan Kelly, Jocelyn Lowe, Joy Waugh, Nelle McMahon, Rodolfo Hernandez, Charlotte Hernandez, Laura Floyd, Olivia Hood, Teagan Schaffarzick, Thea Fischbach and Sydney Nedrow.

Placing seventh was the EHS quad team of Ashlan Estrada, Kami Bullock, Angelena Sloan, Victoria Sperring and Sarah Stouffer.

White River: Qualifying for PNWIC from White River High was Kaylin Vrizie, who earned a berth in driving.

She placed seventh in Moses Lake.
