The Enumclaw High baseball team showed both its youth and potential while dropping two South Puget Sound League 3A games.

Enumclaw lost at Auburn Mountainview 4-2 Friday and fell 2-1 in an extra-inning game to Bonney Lake.

Bryce Peterson started the game on the mound against the Lions and took the loss. The sophomore right-hander threw well showing good velocity, although he struggled at times with the strike zone. The Lions were sitting on balls and picking the pitches to swing.

Peterson is a very strong sophomore who will be an anchor on the mound for the Hornets as this season progresses and in coming years.

Shayne Sanborn, another sophomore, took the mound in relief  in the fourth frame and threw well, according to coach Eric Fiedler.

“We have a very skilled team,” Fiedler said. “They have a lot of baseball experience, but not a lot of varsity experience.”

Fiedler said the boys are still getting some of the finer points of varsity play down, but the team is showing consistent improvement.

Senior Kevin Nelson hit a home run in the second inning for Enumclaw and Colton McCluskey went 2-for-2 at the plate scoring one run.

Against Bonney Lake, Nelson was on the mound and held the Panthers scoreless for five innings, before a single run scored.

Enumclaw tied the game at the top of the seventh, but lost in the bottom of the eighth.

Nelson had two hits with a double. McCluskey had three hits with a double and an RBI.

Enumclaw is tied for third in the South Puget Sound League 3A with Bonney Lake at 2-2.
