The Enumclaw High School Boys Water Polo Team opened play for the 2014 season at the Curtis Jamboree on Saturday, September 6, losing to two of the state’s top five teams, Newport and Curtis, but beating Lakes 7-4.
The Hornets began play against Newport in an 11:00 a.m. contest, and lost to the Knights 8-2. Senior captains Bryce VanHoof and Jack Pugh each scored in the loss. In Enumclaw’s second game, at 12:30, the Hornets lost to the host Curtis Vikings 10-1. VanHoof scored Enumclaw’s only goal of the game.
At 1:30 the Hornets faced off against the Lakes Lancers, and earned their first win of the season, 7-4. Senior Quinn Warner scored the Hornets first two goals of the game, VanHoof scored two, Pugh added one, and freshman Kyle Morgan scored his first goal in a high school water polo game. Senior goalkeeper Austin Kaehn had nine saves in the win.
The Hornets travel to Puyallup High School on Thursday for their first official game of the season, at 7:30.
