It was hurried and hectic, but the Enumclaw High girls tennis team produced a show for their fans Friday at Clover Park as the league tournament was moved up on the schedule.

The tournament was set to finish Monday, weather permitting, or Tuesday indoors with the top players advancing to the subdistrict tournament today, Wednesday, and Thursday at Bally’s in Lacey. There, the top players, which includes the South Puget Sound League 3A and Western Cascade Conference, will advance to the West Central District tournament May 22 and 23 in Spanaway, Wash.

Although the regular season has not finished, the Hornets will end with at least a share of the SPSL 3A title. A win against Peninsula, either Tuesday or Friday, will seal the deal.

EHS’s top doubles, Anna Nelson and Lauren Redman, sewed up a spot at the subdistrict tournament by cruising through the competition and holding on to their No. 1 seed.

Breanna Pierce and Julie Sanders are in, but were expected to play for the fifth or sixth seed Monday.

Amanda Oster is also in for EHS. Oster, who played a three-hour contest with Peninsula’s No. 3 for her second match, found herself trailing PHS’s No. 2 1-4 in the final set of her third and final match of the day. She rallied to a 5-4 lead and eventually the win. She was scheduled to play Monday, strictly for seeding.

Gina Sanders and Bedda Johnson lost their opener in three sets, rallied to top White River in their second match and went three sets with Peninsula before stepping out 7-5.

Morgan Johnson beat Sumner’s No. 2 singles player, but lost in the finals to a Peninsula player.
