Enumclaw High soccer standout Aleea Gwerder will be taking on the best the Pac-12 has to offer in the fall, having signed to play at the University of Utah.
Now a senior at EHS, Gwerder will join a program that finished 7-10-3 a season ago, including a 4-7 mark in conference play.
Gwerder is the 11th Utah signee. Ten others were inked during February’s national signing day.
Gwerder, a defender, will be taking impressive credentials to Salt Lake City. She is ranked as the No. 6 player in the Pacific Northwest and No. 128 nationally by Top Drawer Soccer after competing in the 2015 Nike National Training Camp. She helped her Washington Premier club to a U-18 2013 Rainier Challenge championship and the National ECNL Playoffs.
Gwerder was also an accomplished runner at Enumclaw. She was the captain of the cross country team, leading the Hornets to a district title and qualifying four years in a row for the state Class 3A meet. She also was named the 2015 3A SPSL Female Athlete of the Year for her performances during the track season. She holds the Enumclaw High record in both the 200 and 400 yard dash.
“I chose Utah because it provides me an opportunity to grow as both a player and a person,” Gwerder said. “Coming to Utah also allows me a chance to pursue my academic goals and chosen career path.”
The daughter of Paul and Judy Gwerder, she plans to pursue a degree in pharmaceutical or medical laboratory sciences. At Enumclaw, Gwerder has been a member of the Key Club, National Junior Honor Society, Junior Honor Guard, and Honor Roll while being named a Washington Principals’ Scholar.
