Low turnover can be hard to come by in high school sports, but the Bonney Lake High girls golf team is in the lucky position of retaining its entire roster from last year.
“We didn’t have any seniors last year,” coach Sharon Lovinger said. “Unfortunately we do have seniors this year, so we will lose some of them after this season.”
Senior Megan Charron, Junior Desirae Haselwood, and Junior Anna Babbitt are last year’s top three performers, returning to the team.
Promising newcomers include sophomore Lindsey Fisher, senior Kellsey Bledsoe, junior Whitney Tix and sophomore Jessica Fields.
J.D. Rushton’s boy golfers did lose two of its golfers to graduation, Ryan Kern and Kyle Campbell.
Promising returning players include senior Josh Journey, sophomore Kash Kolterman, and Junior Thomas Davidson.
Promising newcomers are Freshmen Taylor Dow starting the year on varsity, with Taylor Graham and Grant Townsend also competing for a spot with the top putters.
The goal is to develop young talent, Rushton said. “We have five freshmen and four sophomores on the team. We’ll get a couple wins under our belt and start building a strong program again. I see good things for the next couple of years.”
Both teams made it to South Puget Sound League 3A district tournaments last season.
The teams traveled to Lakes High School Tuesday. The team will play a home match Thursday against Enumclaw High School at High Cedars golf course.
