Fifteen of the Plateau’s top male wrestlers – eight from White River and seven from Enumclaw High – have advanced to Saturday’s district meet and kept their dreams of a Mat Classic appearance alive.
With the regular season concluded, South Puget Sound League 2A grapplers gathered February 3 at Orting High School for subregional competition. The top five finishers in each weight class now move along to the district meet, set for this coming Saturday, February 10, at White River.
From district, the top four in each weight will advance to the state championships. This year’s state event, Mat Classic XXXV, will once again be staged at the Tacoma Dome. The city’s iconic venue will host competitors from throughout Washington in all classifications on February 16-17.
At last weekend’s subregional meet, White River placed second in the team standings, trailing only the perennially powerful Orting Cardinals. Enumclaw finished sixth in the nine-team field.
