Enumclaw’s Kira Hawaaboo earned All-America honors for the second time in her collegiate career when she placed fourth in the women’s long jump during the NCAA Division III indoor track and field championships.
Now a junior at Linfield University in Oregon, Hawaaboo’s All-America effort came March 14 at Golisano Training Center on the campus of Nazareth University (Rochester, New York).
Her top effort of 19 feet, 2 inches came on her third attempt and fell fewer than two inches shy of surpassing her own school record of 19-4.
“Kira was outstanding today,” praised Wildcats coach Travis Olson. “She was focused, ready to compete and it showed.”
Hawaaboo’s accomplishments are a certainly noteworthy, considering she was not a trackster at Enumclaw High and is competing in just her second season of track and field. As a rookie last spring, she placed sixth in the long jump at the Division III outdoor championships in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In April 2024 she took the heptathlon title at the Northwest Conference championships.
Linfield University is an independent, nonprofit university with campuses in McMinnville and Portland, Oregon, as well an eCampus for online learning.
Athletically, Linfield competes in the NCAA Division III Northwest Conference.
