Sami Hendricks set a meet record in the 50-yard freestyle Thursday afternoon at the West Central District III 2A swim meet at Hazen High in Renton.

Thursday’s competition included the preliminary round. Finals begin at Saturday at 10 a.m. at Hazen.

Hendricks bested the field and her own state-qualifying time with a 24.97-second first-place finish. She also won the 100 freestyle in 54.68.

Teammate Madison Munger won the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly, both state times of 2:19.77 and 1:03.38 respectively.

Emma Thompson raced to state times in the 100 butterfly, 1:04.76, and the 100 backstroke, 1:05.75.

Ashley Huynh won the 100 breaststroke with a state time of 1:12.97.

The Hornets also got top finishes from its 200 medley relay, 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
