Hornets stay on top of NPSL rankings after weekend games

EHS is ranking No. 1 at 6-1 record, with WRHS has a 5-1 record, earning their No. 2 spot.

Chalk up two more football victories for the Plateau schools – two landslide victories.

Playing 24 hours apart, the results were equally impressive for White River and Enumclaw High last week. On the evening of Thursday, October 17, White River hosted Kent-Meridian High and blasted the Royals 45-7. One night later, the Enumclaw squad crushed Auburn Mountainview 49-0 on the Lions’ home turf.

The twin wins kept the Plateau teams near the top of the 3A North Puget Sound League standings. Enumclaw sits at 6-1, good for second place in the NPSL, just a step behind the undefeated Decatur Gators. White River rests in third place with a 5-1 league mark (5-2 overall).

Playing a day earlier than anticipated (due to a shortage of game officials), White River jumped on top of K-M early. Before the first quarter ended, Tate Bowen had hauled in two touchdown receptions from quarterback Tristan Waterman and Riley Simmons rushed for a score. Before halftime, Jacob Schiedt caught a TD pass, Max Argo booted a 29-yard field goal and Trevor King scored on a short TD burst, pushing the Hornets’ homecoming lead to 38-0.

White River’s offense eased up during the second half, scoring once more when Gabe Crossley hauled in a TD reception.

The Hornet offense dominated the Lions, totaling 366 yards of offense on just 35 plays. Waterman was highly effective, completing 13 passes on 17 attempts, and Bowen continued his assault on the school record book with seven receptions for 169 yards.

Enumclaw’s domination of Auburn Mountainview was equally impressive. EHS put three touchdowns on the scoreboard during the first quarter and built the advantage to 35-0 by halftime.

Louis Chevalier started the offensive fireworks with a pair of TD runs in the first quarter. Other highlights included two touchdown runs by Cooper Rodarte, single touchdowns by Caleb Christian and Seamus Twohey and, finally, a 15-yard scoring pass from quarterback Gavin Trachte to Colton Paulson.
