The Enumclaw High girls wrestling team brought home three crowns from Saturday’s round-robin tournament at Emerald Ridge High in Puyallup where they competed with 142 other hungry competitors.
Breanna Flaquinti won all three of her matches with first-round pins. In a three-way tie for first-place at the 171-pound division, Flaquinti shared the title with teammates Rose Johnson and Alicia McDougall.
Hornet Mary Nygaard, 119 pounds, won one match and lost two to take third. Logann Erskine, 140 pounds, also won one and lost two to take third place. Each of the girls’ wins were the first for their career. Nygaard earned her win by taking Candace Chuck of Lakeside to the mat at the 4-minute mark in the third period. Erskine’s win was also by fall. She nailed her Franklin Pierce opponent in the opening 30 seconds of the match.
Johnson, McDougall and Flaquinti also scored first-round pins. Flaquinti went on to pin Kathlyn Rogle of Yelm in 32 seconds and Jazane Magraff in 1:03 to take her total to three.
The Hornets’ next tournament is 10 a.m. Dec. 20 at Rogers High.
The Hornets were without Jennifer Paterson and Addie Donohoe, who were taking SATs, Carson Seitz, who is short on practices and still ineligible, and Chantelle Bailey and Kasandra Renfrow, who are injured.
