Enumclaw High placed third and Bonney Lake was fifth during last week’s boys Class 3A state golf tournament.

A healthy sampling of golfers from the four area high schools had traveled east of the mountains for both the Class 3A and 2A tournaments, contested on May 24-25.

The complete field played the opening day and only the top half earned the right to play another 18 holes on Day 2.

The 3A tournament was in Spokane, with the boys playing The Creek at Qualchan and the girls at Indian Canyon. Class 2A participants were in Richland, with boys taking on the Horn Rapids course and the girls at Columbia Point.

3A BOYS

Making the first-day cut were Bonney Lake High’s Curtis Kolterman and Connor Lees, along with the Enumclaw trio of Josh Erickson, Carson Erwin and Jared Beals.

Kolterman and Erickson opened the best, sitting in a tie for 11th place after the first 18 holes with identical scores of 74. Kolterman went on to post the best finish among the local contingent, adding at Day 2 score of 78. His 152 total left him 13th in the field that started with 80 golfers.

Beals was just a step behind. He shot a first-round 79 and bounced back with a 74 to finish at 153, tied for 14th place. Erickson posted 81 on his second round to finish at 155, good for a tie for 17th place. Lees posted back-to-back rounds of 79 to finish at 158, tied for 23rd, and Erwin shot 78 and 81 for a 159 total, tied for 26th.

Miller opened with an 81, missing the cut.

3A GIRLS

Enumclaw High’s Lexi Dechon opened with a 92 and improved to 90 for her second round, finishing at 182. She finished 32nd.

Sumner’s Claire Selmer shot 101 the first day, missing the cut.

2A BOYS

White River was represented at state by Cooper Franklin and Joe Flanigan.

Franklin was tied for 10th place following his first-round 77. Day 2 saw him finish at 87, leaving him tied for 30th. Flanigan had missed the cut after shooting 109 on the opening day.

2A GIRLS

White River’s Sofia Lavinder and Sydnee Scott were able to play both days at Columbia Point. Scott finished 36th after shooting 98 the first day and improving to 96, ending at 194. Lavinder opened with a 96 and slipped to 104 on Day 2, finishing at 200 and in a tie for 43rd.

A trio of their White River teammates had earned state trips and played the opening day. Missing the cut were Jordanne Fray and Georgia Lavinder, each shooting 103, and Maci Goethals, 105.
