The Enumclaw High baseball squad came out of the gate fast against Class 4A competition, beating Federal Way March 13 and then doubling up on the Auburn Trojans 8-4 March 18 in eight innings.

Junior infielder/pitcher Brad McCutchen, claimed the win for the maroon and gold. The game was knotted at 4-4 going into the first bonus frame and Enumclaw managed to put up a four-spot in the top of the eighth inning. McCutcheon took over from there, as he allowed nothing in his one-inning cameo appearance on the hill.

Then, playing first base against Mount Rainier in the Hornet Jamboree Saturday at Osborne Field, McCutchen touched off some fireworks in the second inning of the three-inning exhibition against the Rams, belting a two-run homer.

McCutchen’s dinger was a contributing factor toward Enumclaw smacking the Rams around 8-2 in the non-counter.

“Mount Rainier is a really good team and they may even take the Seamount League this season, so we sort of sent them a message by beating them,” EHS coach Eric Fiedler said. “If we face one another again in the postseason they will already know that we can beat them.”

Enumclaw will have more than its fair share of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, weather permitting. The Hornets hosted Bonney Lake in a make-up game Monday and then played a regularly-scheduled contest at Sumner High Tuesday, with the results of both games coming too late to include here.

Enumclaw was slated to travel for a 4 p.m. game at Yelm High today, Wednesday, then host the Peninsula Seahawks at 7 p.m. Friday.
