After another disappointing week of South Puget Sound League 3A dual meet wrestling action, falling to Peninsula High on Jan. 14, the Sumner High Spartans were well represented at the Willie C. Stewart Invitational Saturday at Foss High in Tacoma.
The Sumner High School gymnasts crew picked up a pair of third-place finishes last week and will head to Kentwood for a dual meet tonight, Wednesday.
The Sumner High basketball boys split in the win-loss column, but the victory was a little sweeter than normal.
The Enumclaw High boys swim team didn’t win an event against Peninsula in South Puget Sound League 3A competition Jan. 13, losing 126-69. It was only the second loss of the season for the Hornets.
For the second straight year, Enumclaw High’s Alicia McDougall went undefeated at the Yelm girls wrestling tournament. McDougall won all three of her matches by fall at the Saturday tourney.
When all was said and done, a miniscule 3.5 points separated the Enumclaw High wrestling team from Class 4A Graham-Kapowsin Saturday as the Hornets finished second behind the Eagles at the Central Kitsap MatMan tournament.
The Enumclaw Hornet girls finished the first half of the South Puget Sound League 3A season with a 7-1 record, the only blemish coming Friday at the hands of Plateau rival White River.
Those who were looking for an instant cure for their insomnia by attending the Hornet-Hornet boys hoop battle in the White River gym Friday night were sorely disappointed. An easy victory by the favored Enumclaw High crew never came to pass, as the Pierce County hoopsters shot well and kept within striking distance, trailing by only a single point (48-47) after three quarters of play.
The Bonney Lake High boys lost two games last week on the hardwood, but the teams keeps battling.
The Bonney Lake gymnastics team jumped back into action with two meets following several weeks off due to the winter weather and holiday vacation.
