The Bonney Lake Panthers took a break from league play Saturday. They edged Hudson’s Bay High 8-6 at home.

Bonney Lake coach Mike Olson used his entire pitching staff with Ryan Journey getting the win over the team from the Vancouver, Wash., area.

Chad Marquez led the winners with three hits, including a triple and a double. Journey had a two-run homer in the first inning.

“We swung the bats really well,” Olson said.

On March 31, Bonney Lake scored the lone run in the top of the ninth inning for a 1-0 South Puget Sound League 3A win at Franklin Pierce.

The game was moved from Bonney Lake to Franklin Pierce because of rain. Bonney Lake will host the Cardinals April 24.

Neither team could get the bats going as they combined for five hits. Bonney Lake had two hits, one coming from Derek Fugere, whose single brought in the winning run.

Kirk Grams pitched eight innings, struck out four and walked four to record the win. Colton Nash pitched in relief in the ninth.

“It seems like this year, everyone is beating everyone else,” Olson said.

The Lakes Lancers scored one in the eight inning as they nipped Bonney Lake, 3-2, in SPSL 3A action March 30.

Bonney Lake held a 2-0 lead after scoring one run in the fifth and sixth innings.

Lakes tied the score with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force an extra inning.

Marquez led Bonney Lake with three hits including a double. Bonney Lake had seven hits off Lake pitcher Matt Chambers, who recorded the win.

Panther starting pitcher Dylan Brown was on the mound seven innings and recorded 13 strikeouts with no walks.

The Panthers host Sumner Friday and Enumclaw Tuesday in league action.
