Beginning Jan. 8, Rainier Plateau Junior Rugby Club will host a free mini-camp for novice players aged 14 to 18. Girls and boys from any and all areas welcome.
“The emphasis of the camp will be to provide prospective players an understanding and realization that they are entering into a community of athletes who have little more than one year of experience playing rugby and who shared the same level of fear of the unknown or at messing up last January,” read a press release sent by Coach Andy Ramsay.
Camp attendees will not be obligated to join the club at the end of session, but they will be provided all information regarding the spring schedule.
All camp sessions are at Sunset Chev Stadium, Sumner High School. They will take place 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., Jan. 8, Jan. 9 and Jan. 10. Cleats are recommended, but sneakers are acceptable. Shorts and sweatpants are appropriate dress for practice play, and layers of clothing are recommended for the changing weather conditions.
Rainier Junior Rugby’s website will have updates in case of inclement weather, and coach Ramsay can be reached at a.s.ramsay@comcast.net or 253-330-6816
