Several Hornets score district times
The Enumclaw High boys swim team started the season off with nonleague wins over North Thurston, 111-68, and River Ridge, 128-48, meet and one state time and several district-qualifying times Thursday in a double-dual at North Thurston.
The Hornets host Capital Thursday in a nonleague contest and then head to the Holiday Relays at Rogers High Friday. EHS is off to Auburn Mountainview Tuesday for a South Puget Sound League 3A meet. Start time for Thursday and Tuesday meets is 3:30 p.m.
Greg Rufener raced to a state-qualifying time in the 50-yard freestyle with teammates Pierce Beigh and Tanner Ross finishing second and third behind him.
The 200 medley relay of Rufener, Shane Jackson, Josh Petersen and Beigh sprinted to a district-qualifying time and a first-place finish.
Jackson picked up a district time and first-place finish in the 100 individual medley. Ross was third.
Petersen scored a district-qualifying time and first-place finish in the 500 freestyle. EHS’s Gabe Sales was third.
A district time also went to the 200 freestyle relay of Rufener, Garrett Hall, Tim Holston and Jackson.
Beigh won the 100 backstroke with a district time. Travis Culp finished second.
It was a 1-2-3 finish for the Hornets in the 100 breaststroke with all three times earning a spot at districts. Rufener captured first with Jackson and Holston following at second and third.
The 400 free relay of Beigh, Culp, Hall and Petersen scored the victory and did it in a district time. EHS’s Braden Dedrick, Holston, Sam Horn and Sales finished third.
Petersen won the 200 freestyle with Holston touching the wall in third. Hall took second in diving. Culp and Sales finished second and third respectively in the 100 butterfly and Hall also took third in the 100 freestyle.
In scoring against River Ridge, the 200 medley relay of Rufener, Jackson, Petersen and Beigh won with a district time.
Jackson scored the win and the district time in the 200 IM with Ross third.
Petersen also won the 200 freestyle with Holston following in second and Will Skelley placing third.
The 50 freestyle played out with the same results as the part of the meet with North Thurston.
Against River Ridge, Hall won the diving and also raced to the win in the 100 freestyle with Horn and Johnathan Stapf right behind in second and third, respectively.
Culp captured first in the 100 butterfly with Sales earning second.
Petersen again scored the win in the 500 freestyle, but this time Sales earned a second-place finish.
Once again, the 200 freestyle relay of Rufener, Hall, Holston and Jackson posted the winning time with a district-qualifying finish, but the Hornets’ second team of Dedrick, Horn, Jeremy McCarthy and Stapf placed second.
Beigh and Culp finished second and third in the 100 backstroke against River Ridge.
The Hornets sweep of the 100 breaststroke stood for both contests.
EHS’s 400 freestyle relay of Beigh, Culp, Hall and Petersen maintained first place and its district time, while the team of Dedrick, Holston, Horn and Sales moved up to second.
