The Sumner High cross country gang cleaned up last week, beating Fife and Washington’s boys and girls on the 3.1 mile Sprinker Recreational Center Course.
While the boys nipped the Patriots 27-28 largely thanks to first and third place showings from Coltin Tanner and Cory Brandt, who cross the finish line with clockings of 17 minutes, 34 seconds and 17:55, respectively. These efforts as well as Shaun LaVigne’s seventh place finish, 18:39, were also good enough to whip the Trojans of Fife 21-34.
On the girls side of the race, Sumner crushed Fife 23-33 and trimmed Washington 21-35. Gabby Phelps got stung by a wasp, but reached deep down inside to finish first in 20:27.
Abi Hensler came in second at 21:29 and teammates Natasha Wilson and Robi Long were fifth and sixth.
Sumner participated in the annual Seaside Race over the weekend but those times were unavailable.
