The Sumner High fastpitch squad experienced the good, the bad and the ugly, winning two of the three and balancing its league record at 2-2.
March 23, Peninsula High scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to go up 6-5, but Sumner retaliated with two runs of its own in the bottom of that final frame to claim the 7-6 conquest.
Sumner pitcher Taylor McCarthy earned a day off March 24 against Clover Park the next day, after going 21 consecutive innings having relinquished no walks.
The game against Clover Park included a boredom factor as in five frames of play Sumner annihilated the weak Warriors 18-3. In the five-inning sleeper the bright spot was mound substitute Allie Sims, now 2-0 on the season, who allowed a mere single for a day’s work.
Friday’s game against Auburn Mountainview was mired with a total of eight errors. Ahead 4-3 in the fifth stanza, the Lions scored one run in both the sixth and seventh innings, putting it out of reach for the Spartans, who were 4-2 heading into the game.
