For the third year in a row, the Sumner High girls soccer squad lost in the first round of the Class 3A state tournament.

This year’s season-ending loss came Nov. 10 at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner in the form of a 2-0 whitewashing at the hands of the Glacier Peak Grizzlies.

Sumner senior striker Kaylee Holloway had two legitimate opportunities to score for the Spartans, but both shots went just awry.

Glacier Peak, which was 16-4-1 coming into the tilt with Sumner, broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 44th minute and pounded in the insurance goal in the 65th minute to end Sumner’s campaign.

The Spartans’ soccer team finished the season with a 9-6-4 record overall.

Glacier Peak lost a 2-1 match to Mercer Island in the next round. Mercer Island is scheduled to play Camas, which beat Bonney Lake in the first round, Friday afternoon.
