The Sumner High girls tennis team squeaked out a 3-2 victory over White River March 23 with an exciting match at No. 1 doubles.
After losing the first set 6-3 to White River’s Haley Havelock and Courtney Hall, the Spartans’ No. 1 doubles team of Taylor Henken and Kyla Anderson, trailing the second set 4-1, staged a come-from-behind victory by winning six of the next seven games to take the second set. The pair then won six of eight games to take the third set 6-2 and the match.
The No. 2 doubles team of Brittany Skirm and Jasmine Babcock also won 6-1, 6-4. No. 3 doubles Kelli Latta and Taylor Friermuth also won 6-2, 6-2.
The Spartans’, 3-1 overall, 1-1 in league, match with Enumclaw Thursday was rained out.
The Spartans are scheduled to return to action at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against Lakes.
