Sumner High kept its league win streak alive with victories over Steilacoom, Franklin Pierce and Eatonville.

The Spartans eked out 3-2 wins over Franklin Pierce and Eatonville, with both matches coming down to the third doubles matches.

Against Eatonville, the third doubles team of Alex Landes and Delbert Oxborrow lost the first set 6-2 and rallied to win the final two 6-3, 6-1 for the match.

The No. 1 doubles team of Jacob Heuett and Hunter Bleha won 7-5, 6-0 and the No. 1 doubles team of Scott Brown and Brandon Walsh also scored a victory with its first and second sets, 6-3 and 6-4 respectively.

“We are getting great play at No. 2 doubles from two newcomers this year,” coach Chris Heacox said of freshman Walsh and sophomore Brown. “They are 2-0 against two good teams and will definitely be a team to watch.”

Heacox said he is also getting good play from his singles and No. 1 doubles teams.

The Spartans topped Steilacoom 4-1 Sept. 21.

Singles wins came from Grant Fulton, 6-0, 6-1, and Heuett 6-2, 7-5.

Doubles wins were from William Mortell and Bleha 6-3, 6-3 and Jeff Bidiniy and Walsh 6-1, 6-0.
