The Sumner High volleyball squad’s 2011 campaign got off to an inauspicious beginning, as it lost to intraschool district rival Bonney Lake 25-16, 25-12 and 25-15, then dropped its initial SPSL 2A match when it visited a vastly improved Franklin Pierce contingent, suffering defeat in that outing in four sets, winning the first 25-13, then dropping three straight 25-21, 25-12 and 25-17.
Statistically, individual highlights included SHS’s outstanding senior, setter Sara Heuett registering 20 assists, 16 digs and three blocks against Franklin Pierce.
Additionally, junior Spartan libero Kendall Jamison managed a dozen digs against Bonney Lake.
After clashing with Clover Park on the road Tuesday, with the results of that match arriving too late to report here, the purple and gold will host Fife at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, then visit Washington Sept. 20, also at 7:15 p.m.
