Sumner High slipped into the West Central District volleyball tournament, earning the 11th spot in a field of 12.
The Spartans will play Sequim at 3 p.m. Friday, with the winner slated to take on White River.
Those two battled in the regular-season finale Oct. 25. The Spartans won the initial set 25-8. White River recovered, winning 26-24, 25-22. SHS pushed the match to a sudden death fifth set, by claiming the fourth set 25-20. WRHS emerged triumphant, winning 20-18.
Highlights for Sumner included Janille Panula’s 41 assists while Katie Egbert and Danika Guiley combining for a season high 42 kills, 21 apiece.
