Bonney Lake High’s wrestling squad started its season in fine fashion Saturday, placing fourth in the White River Classic in Buckley.
When the dust cleared, Panther 103-pounder Colton Tracy and 140-pounder Jeremy Sabin found themselves in the championship bouts of their respective weight classes.
Tracy, the younger brother of former Bonney Lake standout Addison Tracy, beat Orting High’s Dylan Stiles in double overtime, recording an escape with 13 seconds remaining to clinch that victory.
Sabin squared off against White River’s Austin Shirey in a nail biter, but couldn’t quite secure the gold medal, falling to the more experienced Hornet senior, 5-3.
Bonney Lake’s reigning 103-pound Class 3A state champion, Andrew Cunningham, now grappling at 119 pounds, throttled three consecutive challengers to lay claim to a Classic championship.
He topped Nathan Gonzalez of Sunnyside 7-1 in the final.
